Amelia Renkert-Thomas is the founder of Engaged Ownership and Renkert Thomas Consulting LLC, and the author of Engaged Ownership: A Guide for Owners of Family Businesses (Wiley, 2015).
Engaged Ownership is an innovative startup dedicated to the idea that for family enterprise owners, there is more at stake than money. Engaged Ownership offers training and education to family members, their advisors, directors, and managers, to improve engagement and foster more effective stewardship of family enterprises of all shapes and sizes. The Engaged Ownership Engagement Toolkit is a unique and specialized six-module system that provides family enterprise owners and their advisors with all the tools they need to work effectively as a group. The Toolkit includes video tutorials, concept maps, seminars, infographics, and consulting guidance, and is available through engagedownership.com.
Amelia recently launched Engaged Ownership’s new online platform, MoreAtStake.com. More at Stake is dedicated to providing highly relevant materials, articles, and resources to enterprising families and family business advisors. Built around the idea that family businesses are not solely financial institutions, More at Stake’s weekly releases provide its subscribers with a bevy of pertinent and substantive materials to expand their own repertoire of know-how, and offers an international community with whom to interact.
Renkert Thomas Consulting LLC is a U.S.-based consultancy focused on family enterprises—businesses, family offices, trusts, private trust companies, and foundations. Renkert Thomas Consulting works with family enterprise owners on issues related to strategy, ownership, and governance. Amelia brings technical expertise, multi-disciplinary training, and extensive experience to governance design, business operations and strategy, law, and family systems and organizational development.
A tax, trusts, and estates attorney by training, Amelia co-founded Withers Consulting Group LLC in 2013, and prior to opening her consulting practice, was a partner at the international law firm Withers Bergman LLP, where she co-chaired the firm’s Family Office Group.
Amelia comes from multi-generational businesses on both sides of her family, and brings empathy and perspective gleaned from her families’ 150 years of business history, to her own work with clients. Amelia succeeded her father and served as President of Ironrock, Inc.—a fifth-generation family-owned and managed producer of ceramic tile and thin brick located in Canton, Ohio—from 1990 to 2002. She remains closely involved with Ironrock as a director and officer. Her maternal grandfather founded Fisher Price Toys.
Amelia received her B.A. from Yale College, her J.D. from Harvard Law School, and her LL.M in Taxation from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
